I finished reading “A Flair for Chardonnay” by Deborah Garner yesterday. As you can see, my writing companion was not nearly as impressed with the book as I was, but she isn’t too impressed with the ones I write either unless there’s a dog bone involved.
Garner is a fellow Wyoming writer, who is best known for her Paige and Jake series. Flair is the first in what will be the Sadie Kramer Flair Mysteries. We first met Sadie when she made an appearance in “Cranberry Bluff” and stole the show so completely that I’m happy to see her earn a series of her own. Be warned though, do not read this book if you’re on a diet because you will have serious cravings for chocolate!
Sadie runs an eclectic clothing store in San Francisco and is known for her flair for fashion. She likes clothes that make a statement and will make you want to update your own wardrobe. She also has a hobby — solving mysteries. Sadie’s accompanied on her wine country investigations by her Yorkie, Coco, who is as happy to hear the words “let’s go” as my own writing companion.
The mystery is a good one, with lots of suspects and a few blind alleys accompanied by top-quality wine and chocolate. It was a delightful escape from the summer heat and the San Francisco fog made a welcome change from the high mountain desert of Casper, Wyoming. I lived for sixteen years in the Bay Area so I’m always happy when I get a chance to visit, even in the pages of a book.
Check out all of Deborah Garner’s books. I think you’ll be glad you did!
